MOST SUCCESSFUL STORNOWAY IN BLOOM

Positive feedback from both locals and tourists throughout the summer leave the Western
Isles Lottery Team in no doubt that this year’s summer planting project has been their most
successful to date.

Janet Paterson of the Lottery Team said “The flood of pictures and comments on social
media confirm the public’s appreciation of all the hard work and organisation that goes into
making Stornoway aesthetically pleasing throughout the summer months. That’s what
makes the continuation of the annual planting project both necessary and worthwhile but
more work is required to keep improving and expanding the displays year-on-year”.
Christine Davidson of Barvas Blooms was commissioned by the Lottery Team this year to
create the large 2 and 3 tiered planters in the town. Her hard work was clearly outstanding
and received many, many appreciative compliments.
Hamish Bremner, yet again, created the beautiful display of barrier baskets on South Beach
Street as well as the large terracotta planters overflowing with blooms in the Stornoway
narrows and North Beach Street. He also made the entrance to Stornoway’s Town Hall look
stunning.

Mary, of Unsen-Macdonald Gardening Services, created the bedded displays at Manor
Roundabout and at the seal beds on South Beach Street. Mary also provides the vital roles
of the maintenance and watering of all planters throughout the summer months. October
sees her clearing the beds and preparing them for the Spring bulb displays which start giving
us colour again in February.

Janet continued “none of this would be possible without the continued and vital support of
everyone who ensures the Western Isles Lottery continues the successes of the past six
years. Every £1 ticket purchase goes towards these year round upgrades and we cannot
thank everyone enough for their support. We are now in Year 7 and our small, but very hard
working, committee still have a LOT to do! Every new supporter is of huge value to us and
clearly benefits every community across the Western Isles – Where There’s a WILL, There’s a
Way."
